Strasbourg, France | 13–14 February 2025
Dr Ihsan Inan participated as international faculty at the Hernia Peer-to-Peer Faculty Summit held at the IRCAD Institute in Strasbourg, a high-level meeting bringing together experienced European surgeons involved in robotic hernia surgery training and proctoring programmes.
The summit focused on the evolution of structured training pathways in robotic abdominal wall surgery, the optimisation of proctoring programmes and the sharing of best practices in surgeon-led education.
The meeting gathered recognised experts responsible for developing advanced robotic training curricula across Europe.

Faculty Role – Advanced Training Development
During the meeting, Dr Inan contributed as faculty in sessions dedicated to advanced robotic abdominal wall reconstruction, with particular emphasis on Transversus Abdominis Release (TAR) techniques.
Structured Robotic TAR Training
His contributions included presentation of the educational structure of robotic TAR training courses, addressing:
- training pathways and learning curves
- technical pitfalls in complex abdominal wall reconstruction
- strategies to improve surgical training models for robotic hernia surgery
These discussions aimed to refine and standardise educational approaches for advanced robotic abdominal wall procedures.
Hands-on Training and Best Practice Sessions
Dr Inan also led a hands-on training session for faculty surgeons focusing on best practices in robotic TAR procedures.
Practical Surgical Training
The workshop addressed:
- operative strategy and procedural steps in robotic TAR
- training using advanced experimental models
- methods to facilitate the transition from simulation training to clinical practice
These sessions were specifically designed for senior robotic surgeons involved in training programmes, with the objective of harmonising surgical education and improving the reproducibility of complex abdominal wall reconstruction techniques.
Advancing Robotic Hernia Surgery Education
The Hernia Faculty Summit forms part of a broader international initiative aimed at standardising training pathways in robotic hernia surgery.
Through expert discussions and practical training, the meeting contributes to the safe dissemination of advanced techniques such as eTEP and robotic TAR across specialised surgical centres.
Participation in this summit reflects ongoing involvement in international surgical education, mentoring and proctoring in robotic abdominal wall surgery.
These initiatives also reflect the experience developed in specialised centres performing robotic hernia surgery in Geneva.
