About Dr Ihsan Inan

Surgical Background and Vision

Dr Ihsan Inan is a Swiss-trained visceral surgeon recognised for combining surgical mastery with innovation and a rigorous, patient-centred philosophy.
He began adopting minimally invasive techniques in the early 1990s, at the very beginning of their development, and later became one of the early adopters and developers of robotic surgery in Europe, particularly in abdominal wall and hernia surgery, alongside leading colleagues in the United States and other regions.

Leadership in Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery

His clinical leadership in minimally invasive and robotic surgery reflects deep technical expertise together with a sustained commitment to safety, functional outcomes and high-quality recovery.
Robotic surgery is considered not as a technological goal in itself, but as a tool enabling consistent execution, precision and risk control across elective, oncological and emergency situations.

Founder of Geneva Surgery

Dr Inan founded Geneva Surgery to translate an integrated vision of surgical care into everyday clinical practice. Based in Geneva, he operates primarily at Clinique Générale Beaulieu and the Hirslanden Grangettes clinic.

His clinical expertise covers the full scope of general visceral surgery, with particular emphasis on complex abdominal wall reconstruction, including groin, ventral and incisional hernias, diastasis recti, as well as colorectal and small bowel surgery, functional upper gastrointestinal surgery and digestive oncology.

Leadership in Robotic Hernia Surgery

At a time when laparoscopic hernia techniques were still emerging in Europe, Dr Inan was among the first surgeons to promote and apply robotic technology to abdominal wall reconstruction and groin hernia repair.

His work contributed to the development of modern reconstructive concepts, including the Inan Inverting Plication technique for diastasis recti repair, which is already influencing clinical practice and surgical training. The objective of this approach is not temporary correction, but durable restoration of abdominal wall mechanics and trunk function.

Safety Standards in Biliary Surgery

A defining feature of his practice is the systematic application of high safety standards in biliary surgery. Robotic cholecystectomy is performed using advanced intraoperative imaging strategies, integrating ICG cholangiofluorescence and intraoperative cholangiography in both elective and emergency settings.

These protocols reflect a constant focus on risk reduction, precise anatomical identification and procedural reliability, even in complex or inflammatory situations.

Robotic Surgery in Emergency Practice

Dr Inan was also an early proponent of robotic surgery in emergency visceral care. For more than a decade, he has maintained continuous access to robotic surgery for emergency situations, supported by dedicated team training and robust organisational structures.

This approach allows urgent cases to be managed with the same level of precision, safety and technical consistency as elective procedures.

Teaching, Mentoring and Research

Beyond his operative activity, Dr Inan is deeply involved in teaching, mentoring and clinical research. He acts as a proctor and instructor in robotic surgery and contributes to the training of surgeons internationally.

His academic activity includes scientific publications, book chapters, invited lectures at international congresses and educational media contributions. This engagement ensures continuous integration of evidence-based practice and innovation into patient care.

Philosophy of Care

Dr Inan’s philosophy of care is rooted in technical precision, multidisciplinary collaboration and a structured perioperative strategy inspired by the concept of marginal gains.

Each patient pathway integrates prehabilitation, systematic immunonutrition, opioid-free pain management and early mobilisation. Care is delivered by a consistent and closely coordinated team, including active postoperative involvement of the anaesthesiologist, with the objective of achieving an uncomplicated postoperative course and durable functional outcomes.

Personal Note

Born and raised in Turkey and fully trained in Switzerland, Dr Ihsan Inan speaks French, English and Turkish.

As founder and lead surgeon of Geneva Surgery, he continues to advance surgical practice by combining experience, innovation and a strong commitment to multidisciplinary, functional and patient-focused care.
